"ROAD
TO NAFPLIO: IMAGES OF GREECE"
Maryanne's first one-woman
exhibit, "Road to Napflio," was shown at
New York City's Grant Gallery during April 2004. The
photographic exhibit displayed 50 images captured
during the "Halcyon Days" of January 2001,
as she traveled throughout the Greek mainland and
islands. "I wanted my images to capture the amazing
history of this beautiful country which is embodied
in the face of the landscape and the people of Greece,"
says Russell. These images are supplemented by Russell's
portraits of Greek Americans, photographed in New
York, at the request of her curator.
This solo exhibit is a
first for Maryanne who has shown her work in many
of the prestigious galleries of New York. In recent
years, Maryanne's work has been featured at the Chelsea
Art Museum, the Lobet Gallery and at the flagship
store of Sephora. Here, her work was featured alongside
that of her mentor and former Time Inc. colleague
Alfred Eisenstaedt. "The Road to Nafplio"
represents another milestone for our gallery,"
states Tatiana Grant, President of the Grant Gallery.
"Her work is both poignant and breathtaking,
her images speak volumes." |
